Suspended Animation

Many people love Australian Rules Football enough to enjoy the annual spectacle of the ‘Grand Final’. Today, they relish the opportunity to witness another classic contest.

It’s a bit of escapism, really.  Fun and enthralling, even though not overly important in the whole scheme of life.  Yet we (many) love it.

Just a quick check though?  Are you really able to get on with the rest of life when you need to?  Maybe some people are more hooked than they’ll let on.  If not with the ‘footy’, perhaps with other pursuits in life. Just as Jesus said that it’s out of the overflow of the heart that the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45), then our speech betrays what really consumes us (although Jesus didn’t have the footy to be excited about, hey!).  Not that it’s wrong to enjoy a football match, it’s just that I’d like to be known as being more passionate about things that matter more! Animated about the right things, and not just living for one more week in a state of suspended animation!
